When it comes to the classic look, you can’t get much more classic than hardwood flooring. This type of flooring has long been associated with traditional decor. Luckily, with so many different kinds available, pricing has become quite affordable.
One thing to keep in mind with adding wood flooring in any room is color matching. If you have other wood pieces, you want to make sure any other pieces complement flooring selection. It may seem like a good idea to have stark contrast, but in reality, a couple shades difference is really the best idea for favorable décor.
Of course, classic looks are not limited only to hardwoods. Certain types of stone provide a traditional look as well. Stones like marble and granite certainly bring a classic look to any room.
Marble is regal and elegant. Choose this option for places like a master bathroom or foyer. Keep in mind marble will be a bit pricier than other options, so this is a bit of splurge. Of course, granite works well as a counter for a kitchen or a bathroom. Granite pricing has come down tremendously in the last couple of years, making it a very affordable option.
When it comes to classic style, there’s more to consider than just material and color. Patterns matter too. Some of my favorite classic patterns that I’ve used are the diamond shape and the herringbone design. I find that the diamond shape works well in small bathrooms. And remember you will use slightly more tile in a diamond pattern than regular square by square. The herringbone works nicely as a backsplash in a kitchen.
