What’s the Difference Between Waterproof and Water-Resistant Flooring?
When water comes in contact with flooring and pools on the surface, wood and non-water-resistant flooring can become warped. Moisture can seep into the material, causing it to expand, and if left un-treated, it can lead to mold and mildew.
When floors are water-resistant, it means there’s an added barrier that prevents moisture from permeating the material for a limited amount of time. Water-resistance means that immediate contact with water will not result in damage, but it is still important to clean up any standing water to further reduce the possibility of damage.
Waterproof flooring, like performance flooring, works similarly with a protective barrier. However, the flooring can endure much longer exposure to the water without harm to the material.
