1. The Prep

First, prepare your space by covering exposed floors for protection. Stone ledger is heavy, so take care to install ½” backer board over the sheetrock, making sure to screw into the wall studs. To get a perfect fit, measure and dry lay the stone ledger before making a level chalk line on the wall where the first ledger will be placed. Horseshoe spacers can also help ensure the ledgers are level.

2. The Mortar

Step two is all about mixing mortar before installation begins. After reading all instructions, mix the proper ratio of mortar and water together in a bucket, using a [mortar mixer](https://www.flooranddecor.com/rubi-installation-materials/rubi-mix-thinset-and-mortar-mixer-100011030.html) set to low RPM with high torque. The mixture should be the consistency of creamy peanut butter.

3. The Installation

Once your mortar is mixed and ready to go, it’s time for installation. Start by damp sponging the backer board and ledger before and during install to ensure the mortar adheres to the surface.

Back-butter the stone ledger using the notched side of a trowel. Begin at the bottom of the wall, working left to right, gently tapping with a mallet after each placement. If needed, level your ledger with spacers.

Complete the first row and then repeat the same process, always beginning on the left side or corner ledger. Be sure to let stone ledger set for 24 hours.

4. The Seal

Fourth and final step, spray sealer directly on your newly installed wall to seal the stone. Allow it to dry for 1 hour.

That’s it! Your beautiful new stone ledger wall is ready to admire and enjoy. Get everything you need under one roof at Floor & Decor. Shop online or [visit us in store](https://www.flooranddecor.com/stores).
