What is an IIC rating?

This is a single number rating dealing with impact noise that is transmitted through a floor/ceiling system, i.e., impact sound is considered to be footfalls, chair scrapes, dropped objects, etc. Example: A high IIC rating, indicates good sound insulation properties.
