What is the difference between shoe molding and quarter round?

Quarter rounds and shoe moldings are noticeably similar in shape, and in some cases can be used interchangeably. However, shoe moldings are made from a more malleable material that has a 90-degree angle but not a perfect quarter radius like a quarter round. Shoe moldings are used to run along the intersection of the baseboard and existing floor to correct any inconsistencies.
